Foot pain and braces/wraps

Writer's picture: Sara Wynne FerruzzaSara Wynne Ferruzza

This week's question -

My daughter is having some foot pain, should I get her a brace/wrap

My answer -

While bracing/wrapping can be helpful to decrease the pain, there is likely a cause for that pain which could be anything from a genetic issue, structural issue, movement pattern issue, even a breathing issue. Bracing or wrapping will not take that away. Using a brace or a wrap as a short term solution while actively seeking out and addressing the root cause may be ok, but using the brace or wrap as the solution will generally lead to continued pain and frustration, or potentially pain to develop in other areas along the same pathway as the problem worsens.

If you have been exclusively bracing/wrapping an area and not searching for the cause, call me today for a free consultation. 973-556-8465
